Did you ever get the message that your enthusiasm was making others weary? You could tell that it would be one more thing that will 'set them off,' so to keep the peace you tone it down and wait until you can frolic, jump for joy, leap off into the sunset once again, unencumbered? I often think that all it would take for the world to be a better place would be more compassion and more empathy. We should always be on the lookout for improving the ways we are compassionate in our own little worlds, the environments we call our own. The ones where we can have the greatest effect, that can spread to the more 'outer reaches' of the places we spend the most time.. My son and I have been doing the Friday crossword puzzle every week for several years. He lives in a different city, so we meet every Friday on Facetime and do the puzzle together. It's interesting to observe how some weeks one of us is "on" - the answers are easily solvable, everything clicks, and then other weeks the puzzles are real stumpers. We work on the puzzle for a while, then put it aside, then we Facetime later in the morning for more puzzle work. It's interesting that our unconscious minds work on the puzzle when we put it aside for a time, when we come back to it, a lot of the clues just click. I was in a quandary about finding a place for my recyclables. I met a woman in the park while on our morning walk and knew she worked for a recycling company so I asked her if there was a place close by that would accept my recycling. Offhand, she did not. We parted ways and we enjoyed our walk. The next time we visited the park, I noticed a large receptacle, for, you guessed it - recycling. Paper, glass, plastic, even cardboard could be placed in the bins. Right there, practically in front of our noses, was a place for recycling. How often is the answer you're looking for right in front of your nose? I love that we can find the answers we're searching for if we know how to watch for them. I often get angry at other drivers as they zip around me, sometimes dangerously cutting in front of me, I get angry, not because of the reckless driving, but because such driving is done unconsciously. I'm a very conscious driver because I'm always scanning the roads for animals, especially turtles. When you're zipping around, getting from point A to point B you will probably miss that small rock by the side of the road, which in actuality, is a turtle... I'd read some time ago that women live more consciously generally, because we are scanning to keep our children safe from danger. This might just be one of those old fashioned and outdated misconceptions like a lot of things we've learned over the years. I have yet to follow up with that.
