Film fun: today I'm thinking about a movie I was introduced to back in the late 1990s, from the small branch library near our house. 'The Castle' is about the Kerrigans, an Australian family who fight to keep their home after they and their neighbors receive compulsory acquisition letters. Quirky and heartwarming and worth a watch. from Wikipedia: "Shot in 11 days on a budget of approximately A$750,000,[3] The Castle gained widespread acclaim in Australia, where it is considered one of the greatest Australian films ever made. Navigating.... Ever since I discovered how simple it is to record audios on my phone, I've enjoyed using that handy device for thoughts, conversations, ideas in the moment, cicadas, beautiful sounds.. And then suddenly there are over 100 "uncategorized audios" that need "categorizing." A good reminder of how those tiny moments, those small actions add up. I know how to waste time, it follows that I know how to "un-waste time." I've gotten sloppy and distracted lately but I am not beyond saving. And I will stage a come back. How long has it been since you enjoyed a good hearty laugh? So much around us is very serious, and it's not always easy to conjure up a hearty laugh, but I know you will feel better if you find something that will make you laugh. Sometimes for me that's remembering something funny that one of my kids said, or that was said to me, even years ago.. Or an old favorite comforting movie, I recently watched 'The Gods Must Be Crazy' and some scenes made me laugh out loud.. I highly recommend this movie. With the closing of the Lion's Gate Portal, we come to Obon. Honoring the ancestors and welcoming them back. Here are two beautiful pieces of Japanese art created in honor of Obon, artwork that was created many decades ago. Obon is very similar to the core idea of Halloween and that must be why I love Obon so much, because I am a huge fan of Halloween, and honoring our ancestors, and leaving out lanterns and special gifts for them. Halloween has it's Jack-O-Lanterns and Obon has it's straw horses and lanterns. Come back, dear ancestors, come back! We honor you!
