When my stepmother passed away in August, one of her grandchildren wrote a beautiful essay entitled 'Oma's 10 Rule For living" That captured the spirit of Arianne perfectly. I thought I would do something similar here, and think about my ten rules for living. Rule number 1 would definitely be get outside in nature. No matter what you do, do your best to spend some time in nature, especially if you need to ground, heal, reconnect, de-stress, think about things, have an important task coming up, a small amount of time (or a large amount of time) spend in nature will help everything. Writing prompt: What is your rule number 1 when it comes to your rules for living well? Writing prompt: Do you have time for your rule number 1 today? Today I am very grateful for the unseen neighbor who shoveled the bottom third of my driveway for me. #Writingprompt ##snow #woodswalk #Winter #outdoors #nature #cold #trails #paths #footprints #animaltracks

Strolling through the NPR show 'Book of the Day' https://www.npr.org/podcasts/510364/daily-books I love these shows, especially this time of year when I like to imagine the gift books I could give to people - the hosts were revisiting the book "Gone Girl' and near the end of the podcast one of them mentioned the quote "A good friend helps you move, a best friend helps you move the body" Writing prompt: Who did you think of first when you heard that quote? Writing prompt: Did an image come to mind when you though of that quote? It is Giving Tuesday and NPR could use a dollar or two. Don't forget your favorite animal charities, who can always use our help. Today I am grateful for NPR, Giving Tuesday, a warm house. Today I can give the gift of reflecting instead of judging. It takes a village. Sometimes an awesome niece is just the perfect village an amazing helper. My father is in rehab these days and every day is different when someone is almost 96, learning to walk again, and prone to falls and forgetfulness. It wasn't planned, but it's become a wonderful improvised dance. Here is my beautiful niece at a park on an Autumn day recently. Before the grandpa and the father care giving began! This week I am grateful for helpers, giving, family, observing moments. Writing prompt: find a writing group and join them for a session. No critiquing. Writing prompt: What kind of 95 year old will you be? #Writingprompt #awesomeNiece #November #95yearsyoung #aging #everydaymagic #dailygratitude #Dailywriting #writinggroups
Dad's been relocated to his former state of Illinois. It's been a whirlwind of activity and it can't be that it's only been two weeks. Yikes! Highlights of the week: Dad putting on a witch's hat in his new retirement home. Dad looking up at me from his hospital bed and saying "We have each other." His tenacity is astounding. My grandson's smiles and nose crinkles and discovering play and loving the autumn leaves as they flutter down. My Jack O' Lantern is lit (3am activity) and Happy Halloween!! #WritingPrompt #WordPrompt #JackOLantern #Halloween2025 #WoodsWalk #Pumpkin #RetirementHomes #Moving #GrandsonLove #PumpkinCarving
lhttps://www.nokings.org/#map Lasting, healthy societal change and evolution happens from the bottom up, not the top down. People of all ages across the United States and around the globe will be taking to the streets in protest. Are You Ready? We're calling on all of our Perelandra people to get out there and take a (literal) stand for democracy, for human rights, for civil rights. Do what you can to make it happen. All you need is a sign and a place to meet. If you don't already have a plan, you can find a group near you on this map and website. https://perelandra-ltd.com/ Like everything, looking to our dear Perelandra friends for support. Lots of great tips and suggestions here. Hectic beyond hectic week. But feeling very blessed and hope you are too. When we consider solutions for restoring environmental and health balance to ourselves and an out-of-balance world, we need only access the intelligence of nature for answers.
Perelandra As a distraction, I guess, from the horrific news that seems to be a nonstop these days, I've been delving more and more into history. The History Chicks has been a long time favorite of mine and it's been around since 2011! Hosted by Beckett and Susan: thehistorychicks.com/ Newer to me is 'The Rest Is History' podcast, found on YouTube and through your usual podcast places. It's interesting that as you learn about The Medicis or Mary Queen of Scots you begin to see that horrific politics has always been around. Money, power, greed, have driven people since money, power and greed have been thought to create happiness. That's nothing new and offers a bit of solace. https://fixthenews.com/ from the ABOUT page: Fix The News is an independent, subscriber-supported publication, read by people from 195 countries. Each week, we find stories of progress from around the world, and share them in our email newsletter. We have a podcast too, called Hope Is A Verb, where we interview people doing extraordinary things to make the world a better place. And "good news for progressives" - The Smile https://www.readthesmile.com/ Highlights from the week: library crafts, welcoming Autumn! Discovering new online writing groups. More about that next time! I am thankful for answers, solutions, support, help when we need it. #Writingprompt #wordprompt #history #TheHistoryChicks #TheRestIsHistory #TheSmile ##FixTheNews
Finally. History of the Farmer's Almanac: https://www.almanac.com/bakers-dozen-almanac-editors A favorite season after battling the temps of an elongated summer. Very glad to put this one behind me. And us. Here's to all the things we love about Autumn. And then some! Writing prompt: How about a change to your writing schedule? Writing prompt: Goals that are not goals, un-goals to accomplish? Highlights of the week: discovering some new online writer's groups, coming to terms with things I can not change, finding ways to help that benefit everyone involved. #writingprompt #wordprompt #autumnleaves #writinggroups #FarmersAlmanac #goals #LiveInTheMoment
Who Gets What and Crockery Cookbook Journals It's always a question how much time you should spend on things that involve the past vs doing things that you want to do for today. I thought I would begin editing and redoing the 1000 journals I've published since 2016. But when you think about authors and their works of fiction, or nonfiction, they might have the same feelings, but they forge ahead and create new works, because, honestly who has the time? We improve with each new creation, whether it be art, or writing or a way of doing things.. Allowing that growth is the important thing. Writing prompt: Most important focus for me today is: Writing prompt: How am I honing my skills as I forge ahead? Highlights of the week: enjoying thehistorychicks.com/, laser eye surgery procedure, the tiniest hint of autumn is in the air, car repairs not as devastating as first thought they would be. #writingprompt #wordprompt #whogetswhat #crockerycookbook #legacyjournal #whattodowithmystuff #TheHistoryChicks
Something I'd been dreading for a while happened to me this week: a "temporary" crown fell out, just as I sat enjoying some homemade soup. It was put in in 2020, so it lasted a good long time for being temporary. Now the search begins for a new dentist. That's not an easy feat, is it? You have to find one who is in your 'plan' and then the maze of form filling out begins. The kind of thing that's easy to procrastinate about. It's such an odd thing that some things we hop right to when doing them, and other tasks just sit in the back of our minds, gathering cobwebs. Today is Lazy Mom's Day, the first Friday in September. Cheers to all moms (including fur baby moms) and hopes that everyone gets to enjoy something just for them today. Writing prompt: What would you most enjoy on a "do nothing" day? Writing prompt: Are you a procrastinator? Why? Highlights of the week so far: wonderful breezes, pattypan squash, the season's first apple dumplings, and I'd been putting off doing some craft stuff, and I finally just went ahead and did it. #Writingprompt #wordprompt #procrastination #crafts #sublimination #appledumplings #lazymomsday #September #Autumn
